I think that Jonah Hill took a big leap with his role selection and did a wonderful job with his role. Usually, I would see Jonah star in comedy movies, like 21 Jump Street or The Babysitter. Jonah Hill did a great job at portraying Donnie Azoff, which I believe was a different role for him to play.
THE WOLF OF WALL STREET MOVIE CAST MOVIE
I guess you could say that Jonah Hill added a little of his comedic “personality” to the movie by just being himself. The director and actor both did really good jobs in defining that line between the actor themselves and the character he was playing. He was the personality actor, but I do not think that Martin Scorsese (director) “relied on him too much,” which viewers can tell immediately. He managed to make the film funny to audiences. In this film, I would consider Jonah Hill to be a personality actor because I think that he brought his comedic self into his role. Personality actors are, at some level, playing themselves (or at least that is the perception)”(Goodykoontz & Jacobs, 2014).
But relying on it too much is thought of as a crutch, as a substitute for skill and technique. “As with impersonators, there is sometimes a negative connotation to the term personality actor, which is odd, in some ways, because acting depends so heavily on a strong personality. From first spotting DiCaprio in Romeo and Juliet, to seeing Titanic, and now, T he Wolf of Wall Street, I would say that he has the ability to fit any character he plays and he would make that character memorable. I would say he is very good at what he does. I would consider Leonardo DiCaprio a character actor as well because I, personally, have seen him in a ton of movies and he seems to adjust to the role very well. “Actors that are able to fit invisibly into a wide variety of disparate characters, adapting to the needs of each script and director they work with are known as character actors” (Goodykoontz & Jacobs, 2014). The way he portrayed this character, Jordan Belfort, seemed like he did not have to try very hard to convey the story or to convince audiences he did it naturally, which is why I would consider DiCaprio more than one type of actor. DiCaprio seem to have really told the story well and of course, he added his Leonardo DiCaprio charm to it. He managed to convince me, as a viewer, that he was truly in the character’s shoes. It seems as though Leonardo DiCaprio did an excellent job on interpreting Jordan Belfort’s story. Often this involves actors interpreting well-known roles” (Goodykoontz & Jacobs, 2014). According to Goodykoontz and Jacobs (2014), an interpreter type of actor “ more typically refers to actors who take material and put their own stamp on it. I would consider Matthew McConaughey to be a wild card actor.Īs I mentioned before, Leonardo DiCaprio, plays Jordan Belfort, the main character in the film. Then there’s Matthew McConaughey, who has a somewhat short role in the film, and plays Mark Hanna. Jonah Hill plays his best friend, Donnie Azoff, and I would consider Jonah Hill to be a personality actor. I would consider Leonardo DiCaprio an interpreter and character actor. The entire film is about the character’s life, similar to a biography. In this film, Leonardo DiCaprio plays the main character, Jordan Belfort. I will be analyzing the acting styles of Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, and Matthew McConaughey. In the end, he loses everything – his house, his wife, his children, his fortune, and his friends. Belfort even goes to prison and has to repay everyone that he schemed against. With the FBI onto Belfort’s trading schemes, he devises new ways to cover his tracks and watch his fortune grow.” Belfort ultimately comes up with a scheme to stash their cash in a European bank, but with the FBI watching him like a hawk, Belfort and some of his associates become caught in their web of lies.
This ultimately leads to Belfort being featured on the cover of Forbes Magazine, being called “The Wolf Of Wall St.”. They draw attention like no other, throwing lavish parties for their staff when they hit the jackpot on high trades. As their status grows, so do the amount of substances they abuse, and so do their lies. Their company quickly grows from a staff of 20 to a staff of more than 250 and their status in the trading community and Wall Street grows exponentially so much, that companies file their initial public offerings through them. Plot: “In the early 1990s, Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) teams with his partner Donny Azoff (Jonah Hill) and start brokerage firm Stratford-Oakmont.
